Which location - North County or San Diego Chapter
You have two, count 'em, two WBC
locations in San Diego to choose from.
This web site deals with the course put
on by the North County Group, of the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club. We
are a section of the San Diego Chapter.
Our course is very similar to the course put on by the San Diego Chapter.
The major differences are:
 | Location- San Pasqual High School
in Escondido (near North County Fair) for North County, and the Scottish
Rites Center (at I-8 and Texas Street) for the San Diego Chapter. |
 | Class size: typically 300 students for the
San Diego
Chapter, and 100 for North County. |
 | Outing weekends: they are on alternate weekends for
the San Diego Chapter and North
County, to help ease the demand on rental equipment. |
 | Snow Camp - 3 days for the San
Diego Chapter, 2 days for North County. |
 | Age Limit - at least 14 and in the 9th grade for the North County,
at least 18 for the San Diego Chapter. |
 | Maps and compasses - North
County includes a compass and topo maps for each weekend outing. |
 | Price - Because the San Diego
version of this course has some expenses we don't have, there version is
a little more expensive. |
 | While we have never run out
of room, you can pre-register for the Mission Valley version of the
course. With us, you can print out all the forms and fill them out
ahead of time so that you are first in line.
Unfortunately, you have to pick one or the other. And you can't switch
sessions to make up for outings you've missed. (PICK US, PICK US!!!)
If the course put on by the main chapter is more convenient for you, you
can find all their information at
www.wildernessbasics.com.
