This page is for current students of the course. It's where you can
find all the hike descriptions, available handouts and what-not for the course. Plus
a whole section just on backpacking food!
2009 CONDITIONING HIKES ...
Being in the right physical and mental condition is the best way to
enjoy this class. These hikes are "extra credit", and are provided as
a way of getting some physical conditioning on those weekends when we're not
out on official outings.
Mt. Woodson is one of the local peaks. As part of the class, we
ask that all the students hike up it while we record your time. Only
you and the leaders will know your time, but it's a good way to see how your
level of fitness compares with the rest of the class. You can then
choose the most appropriate outings.
One of the best ways to
keep using your new skills is to join the
Sierra Club. There are many hikes every
month as well as specialized groups you can join.
Also, Jaye (our Social Director) publishes a newsletter with fun
events around San Diego as well as some unofficial outings your leaders are
going on that you can join. You can find it at:
NC WBC Weekly notes on Yahoo.
The Natural History Museum sponsors a group called the
Canyoneers that also has hikes you can join.
