Sea Adventure (Diving in the Philippines)

Lin Craft is an award-winning photographer whose long love affair with nature,
travel, and photography has led to adventures all over the globe. Although
her photographic interests are diverse, she currently specializes in nature
and travel photography. She strives to communicate the extraordinary
beauty of the natural world through her images and has presented over 175
slide illustrated lectures to groups of all ages and backgrounds.
Lin has been active in photographic organizations on the local, regional,
and national levels for over 15 years. Lin has been honored as a Fellow
of the Southern California Association of Camera Clubs (SCACC), of which she
has twice been president, and as an Associate of the Photographic Society
of America (PSA). She has been listed in the PSA Who’s Who in
photography every year since 1994. She is currently serving as president
of the Fallbrook Camera Club, as 1st Vice President of SCACC, and is Treasurer
of the Nature Division of PSA.
This month’s presentation will take you to the remote islands and reefs
of the Sulu Sea in the Philippine Islands. We will visit both an island
community that harvests seaweed to support itself and the rustic camp of some
itinerant shark fishermen. The main part of the program will take you
diving to explore the incredible underwater world of the Tubataha reefs to
learn about the colorful and diverse marine life that inhabit them, including
manta rays. Although still relatively pristine, sadly, even these remote
reef areas are being faced with illegal fishing activities that threaten to
destroy forever what has been considered one of the most beautiful and diverse
marine ecosystems in the world.
NEW LOCATION FOR 2004
Beginning in January of 2004, our meetings will be held at the Otto Center
at the San Diego Zoo on the 2nd Thursday of each month. The meetings will
begin promptly at 7 PM and must finish by 9:15 PM. This will be a wonderful
location for us. We will also have periodic use of a digital projector.

The Photography Section of the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club is a group
of hobbyist-photographers of all levels who meet to learn more about photography
and its applications in natural settings. Meetings generally feature
a speaker from the local photographic community.
Effective January 2004, we will be meeting at 7:00 pm on the second Thursday
of each month at the Otto Center at the San Diego Zoo.
