"From Austria to Our Western Parks"
Presented by Bill Remlinger
Thursday, November 8, 2001 7:00 PM
At the age of 11, Bill Remlinger received a treasure for his birthday, a Kodak Duaflex camera. It used the old 126 print film, B&W of course. From then on, Bill was seen carrying that camera around everywhere. The biggest thrill for him was getting back the results and seeing the improvement with each roll.
As Bill got older he wanted to progress to color, but color film was expensive to buy and to process. So, at the age of 14, Bill started delivering newspapers to pay for his expensive hobby. In high school he joined the school newspaper and yearbook staff. Soon after, Bill was appointed school photographer. A photography class taught Bill darkroom developing and introduced him to 35MM format, which he still uses today.
Bill was stationed in Texas during his service days. Texas offered beautiful landscapes including the Texas Hill Wildflower Country. This is where he fell in love with nature photography.
Retiring two years ago has given Bill more time to pursue photography through travel. Bill and his wife, Betty have traveled throughout the western states, Alaska, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Bill feels that the journey is just as exciting as the photography. "There is nothing more enjoyable than visiting the Grand Teton and Yellowstone Park in September and seeing the beautiful landscapes and the animals just down from the high country for the winter. "
He is currently involved with two photo clubs. Bill finds it enjoyable and rewarding entering photo contests. "It has been a learning exercise to improve my technique and to get opinions from other photographers. "
The first part of Bill's show will take us to Austria. "It is a beautiful country, with varied terrain, fortresses, castles, and vibrant cities". Next, we head to Utah and visit Zion and Bryce National Parks. Here he met with Lindsey Martin, a former Sierra Club member, for some tips on shooting locations. Our last stop will be the Teton and Yellowstone Parks. "I hope you will enjoy the journey."

Message from the Chair__________
One member's slide presentation from our October meeting debuted projected digital photography to SCPS. Karl Grobl is our fearless pioneer. He took us through profound and deeply moving images he created, ground zero, at The World Trade Center.
At the heart of his operation was a laptop computer feeding the images into a digital projector, borrowed from his employer. Using a free software program, Slides and Sound, he built the show, complete with fades. Together with carefully selected music, the impact was enhanced.
The digital door opens wider, beckoning us to cross its threshold.
Sincerely, Steven Cirone

It is with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of David Bogardus, one of Photo Section's strongest supporters.
Among his other capacities, Dave served as Advertising Coordinator and newsletter Editor in the mid 90's.
He was always one to attend an outing, contribute to an organizing meeting, and to support our causes.
Dave was an armchair photographer. He always had slides showing insightful images of wonderful places. He gleefully got out there and did it. He was happy camping with our group or going out alone in his trusty station wagon. Dave followed that old saw that the camera won't operate by itself--travel to interesting places in the West was his forte. He was a quiet gentleman, but never without a quip or interesting story, often about his original digs in New York.
He honored us with his friendship for a decade.
Dave was living in Fresno when he learned of this malady.
He succumbed to cancer on September 26, and, as near as we can discern, knew of his condition just a few months.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Linda, his bride of but three years.
As we miss our brother in photography more than we can express, we are certain that whichever Power is out there will welcome Dave's soul. We are left with wonderful memories of his gentle companionship. God bless. ---Jim Pearson
