Chapter Outing Leader Training: Level I

San Diego Chapter Outings Leader Training

The Sierra Club Statement of Purpose begins, "To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the Earth." In order to more effectively carry out this purpose, we need you as an outing leader.  To become a Level I Chapter Outing Leader (lead dayhikes and car camps) you must:

  1. Have been on at least four Sierra Club outings.
  2. Be a Sierra Club member.
  3. Be at least 18 years of age.
  4. Attend all of both days of Level I Chapter Outing Leader training.
  5. Obtain a Red Cross Standard First Aid card or equivalent before proceeding to step 6.
  6. Plan, publish and execute 2 evaluation outings before June 2016.

The COL1 Training session will be held on the weekend of 16-17 May 2015 at the Clubhouse in the Kearney Lodge Mobile Home Park in Kearney Mesa. You will get classroom training on COL practices and policies and, optionally, Standard First Aid training and certification (see below).

Class size is limited to 15. Sign-up before 2 May by contacting Jim Jafolla at Email:, or on-line at:

A second class is planned for October 2015, check back later for details.

Get er done! As a special offer to COL trainees. First Aid Gone Wild will offer First Aid Class just for you at a special rate. Earn your Red Cross First Aid Certification and discover how to manage in wilderness situations. First Aid Gone Wild Classes are focused on wilderness activities. This Class is a basic First Aid class and does not replace Wilderness and Remote First Aid.
