Independence Day Bus Trip 2008

JUL 2-6, WED- SUN, INDEPENDENCE DAY BACKPACK BUS TRIP
KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK

$205 includes charter bus from San Diego (at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday evening) and park fees. Meals not included. Two moderate backpacks and two strenuous backpacks from the canyon to the high country. Send your $20 deposit (payable to the Sierra Club) to Rob Baum, 808 Maria Ave, Spring Valley, CA, 91977. 619-415-1587, robertbaum at netzero.net.   Full payment due June 1, see refund policy below.

Trip 1: Sphinx Creek ( M5D )
Leader: Pat Klaasen Asst: Pauline Jimenez.

Moving camp each day on little-known Theodore Solomons Trail. Camps at Sphinx Creek Bridge and Sphinx Creek Crossing.  Day hikes to Sphinx Lakes, Avalanche Pass and Palmer Mtn.; move camp back down to the bridge site for Saturday night. Easy hike out Sunday.

Trip 2: Paradise Valley Base Camp (H8D)
Leader: John Challen, Asst: Needed

It'll be a moderate climb to get to Paradise Valley and around 6.5 miles all on trail. We'll spend the rest of the trip day hiking around the rivers and lakes in the surrounding areas.

Trip 3: Fry Pan Meadow (H8D)
Leader: Mark Eckel Asst: needed

Exploratory backpack towards Kennedy Pass. We'll journey past forests, lakes and enjoy the vistas. We might even have time to bag a peak or two.

Trip 4: Granite Lake (S11E)
Leader: Jim Crouch Asst: needed

Strenuous hike of 5500' gain out of Kings Canyon to Granite Lake for base camp. Friday, day hike in the surroundings of the Cirque Crest. Saturday, short day hike and move camp down closer to Roads End for shorter hike out on Sunday.
