MEMORIAL DAY BUS TRIP; CHANNEL ISLAND NATIONAL PARK

camping (20kb)

MAY 27-29, SAT-MON
Coordinator: Jeannine Menger jeannine@wheresjeannine.com 760-729-8177

Join us for a great 3-day adventure on the largest of the Channel Islands - Santa Cruz. The scenic beauty of Santa Cruz is reflected in its many landforms-two rugged mountain ranges, deep canyons, a central valley, year-round springs and streams, plus 77 miles of craggy coastline cliffs, giant sea caves, pristine tidepools and expansive beaches. At least 600 plant species, well over 120 species of land birds including the endemic Island scrub jay, and a vast expanse of wilderness area exist for the curious to explore by land or sea. There are the island fox, spotted skunk, bats, deer, harvest mouse, pacific chorus frog, black belly slender salamander, Channel Islands slender salamander, side-blotched lizard, Southern alligator lizard, western fence lizard, western yellow belly racer, and gopher snake. The marine life surrounding Santa Cruz includes porpoises, dolphins, whales, harbor seals, and California sea lions.

The bus departs from San Diego early Saturday morning, and returns Monday evening. There will be a 1-hour boat ride from Ventura to Santa Cruz. To reserve a space, send your trip preferences and a $20 deposit, or payment in full of $184, to: Jeannine Menger, 2061 Truesdell Lane, Carlsbad, Ca 92008. Make checks payable to the Sierra Club. Please include your email address and evening phone number. (If no email, please include 3 self-addressed stamped envelopes.)
