Join us for the Memorial Day weekend as we kick off our summer backpacking season with a return to the Golden Trout Wilderness area. We'll leave San Diego at 6pm Thursday and return on Monday early evening.

Trip 1: Freeman Creek Grove (E3A) Leader: Pauline Jimenez, Asst: Walter Konopka Easy basecamp in a grove of Giant Sequoias. Choose to lounge in camp or join the scheduled day hikes. Although never far from a road, scenic trail possibilities include easy walks among the trees, a climb to Coffee Mill/Deep Meadows (5-7 miles, 1500' gain/loss), a peek over Forks-of-the-Kern gorge (8 miles, 500' gain/loss), and dabbling along Lloyd Meadows Creek (4-5 miles, 500' gain/loss).
Trip 2: Fish Creek (M6C) Leader: Marcy Stinton, Asst: Bob Stinton Join us for an exploratory backpack and scenic dayhikes into the spectacular Golden Trout Wilderness and Little Kern River Drainage. From our basecamp in Fish Creek we will do exploratory dayhikes to take in the sites in the surrounding area. Total dayhiking miles 25; total backpacking miles 11.
Trip 3: Trout Meadow (M8D) Leader: Starla Rivers, Asst: Blake Cournyer Explore the scenic Golden Trout Wilderness while ensconced in a luxurious campsite a few miles from the mighty Kern River. This is a basecamp with optional day hikes to Hole in the Ground (M16D) and Kern Flat (M10D).
Trip 4: Coyote Lakes & Peaks (S10E) Leader: Mike Fry, Asst: Rob Baum Strenuous backpack to alpine lakes on the southern edge of Sequoia National Park: Jerky Meadow trailhead to Lion Meadows, Coyote Lakes, and return via Trout Meadow. About 33 miles and 6300' of elevation gain in 3.5 days. Optional peak climbs of Coyote Peak and Angora Mtn. We will move camp each day.
