Thursday September 2 - Monday September 6
Coordinator: Fred Gabbard FredGabbard@hotmail.com 619-297-6471

Four days in the Kings Canyon high country, with a variety of trips leaving from Eastern Sierra trailheads at Onion Valley (9200'), Baxter Pass, and Sawmill Pass. The bus departs from Sabre Springs at 6pm Thursday, and returns Monday evening.

To reserve a space, send your trip preferences and a $25 deposit, or payment in full of $155, with a SASE to: Fred Gabbard, 1785 Torrance St., San Diego, CA 92103. Make checks payable to the Sierra Club. Please include your email address. (If no email, include your evening phone number and 3 SASE's.)

Trip 1: Bench Lake (M3C)
Leader: Pauline Jimenez, Asst: Walter Konopka
Backpack from Onion Valley to basecamp at Bench Lake (about 3 miles, 1700' gain). We'll explore nearby lakes, then dayhike over Kearsarge Pass and down to Kearsarge Lakes and Bullfrog Lake. Possible cross-country climb (700') to Cirque Lake and "windows" above camp.

Trip 2: Charlotte Lake (M8D)
Leader: Starla Rivers, Asst: needed
We'll backpack over Kearsage Pass (11,800') and basecamp at Charlotte Lake (10,450'). Our optional dayhikes will feature adventurous cross country routes and an attempt to bag Mt. Bago (11,868'). May also meander over to Rae Lakes and 60 Lakes Basin (M11D).

Trip 3: Sixty Lakes Basin (H9D)
Leader: Rob Baum, Asst: Kirk Belles
We'll camp the first night at Kearsarge Lakes, and then head over Glen Pass to camp in Sixty Lakes Basin. This is one of the most beautiful places in the High Sierras. Enjoy the lakes or bag a peak or two. Optional class 2 climbs of Mt Rixford (12,890') and Mt Cotter (12,721').

Trip 4: Baxter Pass (S9E)
Leader: Mike Fry, Asst: Jim Crouch
We'll climb 6300' over Baxter Pass to camp at Baxter Lakes, move on to explore the Sixty Lakes Basin, then head over Glen Pass, Kearsarge Pass, and meet the bus at Onion Valley. Total mileage 28 mi, with 11,150' gain and 7960' loss.

Trip 5: Sawmill Pass (S12E)
Leader: Steve Fausset, Asst: Diane Purkey
A challenging 12-mile first day as we climb 7,000’ over Sawmill Pass to our basecamp near beautiful Woods Lake. Long cross country hikes to bag several class 3 peaks each day: possibilities include Mts. Cedric Wright, Colosseum, Perkins, Wynne and Pinchot (13,494’).
