Award Categories

Conservation:

Conservation ActivistFor the person who has done outstanding work on a particular conservation project or conservation committee project or conservation committee.
Rainbow WarriorA person who has faced incredible odds to fight for a particular environmental issue or area.
Emily DurbinFor the conservation activist who has devoted efforts above and beyond the norm for land use issues.
Edward AbbeyA desert activist who has contributed to preservation, conservation or education about the desert.
Verna QuinnLong term activist (pending accurate description)

Journalism:

Environmental JournalismFor local radio, TV or print journalist who has shown dedication to fair reporting of environmental issues, problems and interests.

Outings:

One ClubFor the person who best demonstrates the blending of Outings activities with Conservation issues.
Outings Leader of the YearTo the COL who had made excellent outing selections and educated their participants.
COL EmeritusTo an outings leader who has made the decision to retire after a long and active career as a COL.
COL LongevityRecognizes a still-active COL who has led outings and participated in the functioning of the Outings Committee over a specific long period of time (25 years).

Achievement:

(Special) AchievementFor a member who has achieved success in a particular project or issue.
Distinguished AchievementRecognizes a member who has successfully managed significant leadership roles over a period of years.
Lifetime AchievementReflects a sustained level of leadership and commitment in service to our chapter.

Other:

Unsung HeroSomeone in the chapter who contributes immeasurably but who does not necessarily get credit or fame for his/her efforts.
Rookie Activist of the YearA member who just recently begun to shine as an activist in conservation.
Environmental LawFor a lawyer or firm that has shown unparalleled efforts in the protection of the environment in the region.
Office Volunteer of the YearA volunteer who has worked in the administration of the chapter office and bookstore.
Business ConservationA local business that has contributed to an environmental cause, made changes within its organization to be a "green business" or has had education programs about the environment for the community.
Computer SupportGiven to the member who has used his/her information technology skills to support the functions and activities of the local office.
Bookstore Volunteer of the YearGiven to a member who has worked in the administration of the chapter office and bookstore.
Student Volunteer of the YearReserved for a student, High School or college, who has worked with the Sierra Club to further its goals and principles.
Grassroots ActivistFor the member who has most effectively used the volunteer pool and grassroots concept to achieve Sierra Club goals.
Community Activism AwardFor the town or city that has shown commitment to preservation of the environment through legislation or other means.
Friend of the EnvironmentFor the politician who has shown supreme and unrelenting commitment to environmental issues.
Special AppreciationFor a member who has given his/her time generously and without personal gain.
Silver CupThis special award is presented to the volunteer who has contributed tirelessly and is always willing to help move the chapter forward. No recipient may receive this award more than once. The recipient is kept secret until announced at the culmination of the Awards Ceremony.
