Focus On Youth Calendar Of Events

Sierra Club,
Family Section
 Calendar Of Events

June - August 2001

Information Updates

We Have A New Name!!!

With a unanimous vote, our section's name was officially changed to Sierra Club, Family Section. We will still plan to "focus on our youth". This section has always hosted family outings and events. We feel our new name makes that clear! Our logo will remain essentially the same, except "focus on youth" will be replaced with "family section." This change to the logo will hopefully be made by the newsletter editor for our next edition.2001-2002

 Officers Elected

Congratulations to our newly elected and re-elected officers. A special "Thank you" and warm welcome to Dana Templin, public relations volunteer officer.

2001 Summer Trip

Reservations have been confirmed for this year's summer trip to California's Central Coast We'll spend July 15th-19th at our Northernmost destination, Portola Redwoods State Park. Participants can take the interstate or drive through beautiful Big Sur on the way south to our second destination, Morro Bay State Park. See outings write-ups for details and reservation information.

Happy Trails Denise!

Denise Falk is "retiring" from leading Focus On Youth trips in order to have more time for family adventures, now that her kids are older. Denise has been leading FOY trips for over 10 years, and is responsible for finding many of our most popular campsites. Besides leading, she has served in almost every officer position, as an evacuator and trainer for countless new leaders, and recruited and trained food/equipment coordinators. We will do our best to continue the trips and traditions she has started, and hope she'll join us every now and then! Thanks for everything, Denise. You will be missed!

Asst: Needed

This is a central commissary car camp in the Cuyamaca Park, across the street from Stonewall Peak. All you need to bring is a place to sleep, plates, cups and toys. Cost for a two adult family is $35 and one adult family is $30. To reserve, send check made out to Sierra Club-Family Section, SASE, and names and ages of children to: Dan Mischo at 923 Pile Street, Ramona CA 92065. Open to main chapter.

July 4 at 11 am Wednesday M4D

Cedar Creek Swimin' Hole and Fireworks

Leader: Dan Mischo (760) 788-0156

Asst: Needed

This is our fourth annual Fourth of July trip to Cedar Creek. The natural pool is very large and deep and at least as warm as the ocean in late summer. The pool is surrounded by a huge grotto and you can high dive off the cliffs. It is not easy to get to, so the crowd is never large. We will hike, all downhill, in the hot part of the day and hike out in the evening when the day cools down. After that we can go to the Ramona fireworks, where they have a good display and there are no major traffic problems. Call leader for meeting location and hike details. Open to main chapter.
