September 3 Sunday E4

Mission Valley Day hike/Padres Baseball Game

We will hike 2 miles to the stadium where we will watch a Padres baseball game from the outfield bleachers - $5. We will stuff our fat faces while sitting together/rooting as our Padres WHUP (sic) the PITIFUL Pittsburgh Pirates (“dem bums”). Finally, we will beat the parking lot traffic jam by hiking back to our cars.

Nature Knowledge Workshop for Kids

Our annual Focus On Youth autumn workshop may be just the opportunity you’ve been wanting for your children or grandchildren ages 8 and up. It is a fun packed weekend held at relaxing Foster Lodge in the Laguna Mountains. Activities on plant life, animals, Native American wisdom and modern conservation are provided by Sierra Club outings leaders and other local experts who enjoy learning with children. This is a family outing with parents involved in all activities. Six meals (Friday supper - Sunday lunch) are included. Reserve soon, as space is limited. Call leader for details. Price: Adults $50, “Teens” 12-17 $40, and children 6-11 $35. Price reduced $5 per person for tent sleeping. To reserve send SASE and check made out to Sierra Club/F.O.Y. Torrey Pines State Park Day hike

Enjoy a hike in Torrey Pines State Park from 1 - 4 pm. Families with children of all ages are very welcome. Plan on $5-7 for parking fee. Bring sturdy shoes, water, daypack, sun protection and swimsuit (optional). Call leader for signup and meeting location.

 E1A Annual FOY Beach Picnic, Mission Bay

Come eat and play at Mission Bay! No reservations are required — just stop by! Burgers, dogs, buns, fixin’s, beverages and play equipment provided. Bring your blanket, chairs, sunscreen and a potluck dish to feed six. Last names ending in A-G bring salads (green, fruit, potato, etc.,) H-Q bring non-salad side dishes (chips, baked beans, etc.,) and R-Z bring sweet treats. Directions: I-5 to Clairemont Rd/ Mission Bay exit, head west as if going to the Visitor’s Center. Turn Left onto Mission Bay Drive Frontage Rd. We will be located by the playground directly across from a little island, in the Morena section. Directional F.O.Y. signs WILL be posted. Only heavy rain cancels.

El Prado (Lagunas) Car Camp

Enjoy the weekend under a full moon in the mountains near the town of Laguna. We’ll have a hike on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. This is a central commissary trip. Families with children are very welcome. Price for one adult families: $37, two adults or three or more kids: $43. To reserve, send a SASE, check made out to Sierra Club-FOY, and names and ages of kids to leader at: 1827 Bancroft St., San Diego, CA 92102.

October 21-22 Saturday - Sunday E2B

Pumpkin Carving Car Camp, Lake Skinner

Join us for a relaxing weekend in tree-shaded campsites alongside the lake. We’ll hike Saturday afternoon and carve our jack-o-lanterns on Sunday (pumpkins provided.) This central commissary trip is appropriate for all ages. Fee for one adult family is $42, and $48 for two adult family or family with 3 or more kids.

Wilderness First Aid Seminar

This comprehensive seminar is considered the equivalent for the Advanced First Aid required for COL’s. Participants must have knowledge of CPR and Standard First Aid. Check the Hi-Sierran for more specific information and an application.

Borrego Palm Canyon Car Camp

Our large group site will provide an easy walk to Anza-Borrego State Park’s renowned Visitor’s Center Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning, we’ll hike Palm Canyon to the falls — perhaps spotting Bighorn Sheep on the way! This central commissary trip is appropriate for all age levels. Fees: $40 for one adult family, and $46 for two adults or three or more kids in a family. F.O.Y. Quarterly Meeting and Dinner

Quarterly Meetings are held from 6 pm to 8 pm (dinner 6:00-6:30 and meeting from 6:30-8:00) at the University Towne Center food court by the ice skating rink. Meetings are open to all members and their children.

Desert View Dayhike

Families with all ages of children are very welcome. This is a great idea for out of town guests or just to tone up after your turkey day. Call leader to reserve.

December 2 Saturday 8 am M6C

Fortuna Mountain - North Peak (Tierrasanta) Day hike

Leader: Bob Muldrew (858) 292-8405

We will start in Tierrasanta at 8 am, eat snacks at the top and be back by 1-2 pm. Fortuna Mountain is one of the more remote and least climbed features of the Mission Trails Regional Park. Children must be at least 8 years old, or have the leader’s specific approval to go. Heavy, continuous rain cancels. Phone leader for more details.

FOY Holiday Party

We’ll have more fabulous door prizes, “hands on” games, crafts and activities for all ages-and a potluck, of course! Specific central San Diego location and directions will be recorded on Coordinator’s message machine after Thanksgiving. No reservations required, just drop by with any potluck dish to feed six-and a holiday spirit!

North County Dayhike
